1000 warsongs!

I am currently composing several pieces entitled War Songs. It’s frustrating to realise that music is often only seen as a means of consolation. But music can be more than that. It gives strength and can inspire reflection. But how can I actively fight against the war? What is wrong with people? Should we stay away from the social media in order to maintain a reasonably calm life? It doesn’t work like that. News can be fake news. Who knows where the truth lies? What is the truth anyway? There are thousands of questions. Can I just keep writing protest music within my limited possibilities?

My music is called War-Songs. The poems by Suji Kwock-Kim describe the atrocities of the Korean War. In contrast, the Ukrainian songs are a source of consolation. Contemporary music for female voices from Ukraine is hardly known in this country. Daria Koszyk, a Ukrainian singer and member of the ensemble, has conceived this programme. It will be premiered here and contrasts Ukrainian compositions with war songs that deal with the subject of war.
