GEMA – Writer’s Prize

For outsiders, GEMA is a mysterious organisation. It represents and protects the rights of authors and their publishers of music, both of classical and popular music. It is not easy to bring an immaterial product onto the market and make a profit at the same time. Air costs nothing (yet). Music on air is costly. The majority of GEMA members are authors from the field of popular music. Composers of classical music belong to a minority. It is a clear phenomenon, you can really feel the tendency, we, the contemporary music composers, are slowly disappearing. We are on the red list. Nevertheless, every year the best writer’s from both parts are selected and honoured with prizes. I was on the jury for 2024. I would like to express my sincere pleasure to the nominated composers.
