I don’t want to follow these rules!

– is the title of the theater performance.

It’s almost impossible to succeed if you don’t follow the rules. Yet that’s exactly what you actually learn to do at art colleges: break the rules.

The female students at the Bauhaus were pioneers for democracy and equality. But they were in the middle of a society characterized by anti-feminism and anti-Semitism and had to fight against massive resistance. When I read that even at the Bauhaus – a school full of innovative spirit and progressive thinking – there was gender-specific discrimination among the teaching staff, I decided to compose a vocal quartet about it. The text comes from the research book “Women at the Bauhaus” by Patrick Rössler and Elizabeth Otto.
