Nay-Sayer

Composing for key instruments is not easy, especially when you are trying to combine accordion and piano. Both may have keys, but their character and playing technique are very different. My attempt at melding both instruments in order to evoke a new kind of sound has failed. My I-want-to-unite-them has turned into a I-want-to-negate-them. At least the performers have come to an agreement – in saying NO! The piece has become a battlefield between accordion and piano.
