New Composition for Guitar
“The Watchman Who Fell Asleep” is the title of the new guitar piece. It is a commissioned work by an experienced and courageous guitarist, Tomasz Zawierucha. Finally, this piece has been published with fingering instructions by Verlag Neue Musik.
The old knight lying in wait has fallen asleep. We fall asleep in front of the television in our warm living room, while cruel war news continues in the deep night of the big city. This is the background, or rather the starting point, of my new composition for guitar.
Joseph von Eichendorff depicted a remarkable span of time in his short poem “On the Castle”: many hundreds of years ago, a knight was on his castle, a brief rain shower was followed by sunshine, then a wedding procession passed by on the Rhine, and one could see that the beautiful bride was crying. Robert Schumann composed this event through a plain melody and simple chord progression. Now I am trying to translate this simplicity into my compositio
I am grateful to the guitarist, Tomasz Zawierucha, for patiently and understandingly rehearsing this rather complex solo piece with me and for editing
