Octatonic?

Small experiment in octatonic that’s what I called my new piece.

I knew nothing about the octatonic until the recorder player Gaby Bultmann asked me to write a piece with her. What does the octatonic sound like? What does it taste like? Leonard Bernstein’s “Variations on an Octatonic Scale” are very well known. However, the octatonic doesn’t excite me so much that I really want to compose with it. My new work is an experiment to make the octatonic scale as unobtrusive as possible and to find my own scale from the octatonic.
